ANZAC Day 2009

Saturday was ANZAC day, we didn't attend a dawn service as Evan is a little young for that and would not understand what is going on but that is something I would like to do in the near future! After reflecting what it means to us that morning we went out to Burleigh beach and the park again. We like going there as it is such a lovely beach and walk and Evan really loves the park there too!

Ollie and Evan enjoying themselves on the slide as usual....Evan can never get enough of the slide at the moment hehe

Evan being the big boy that he is climbing up the ladder.

My boys running off without me as they can't wait to get onto the beach.

Evan picking up lots of pebbles to throw into the sea with his big brother keeping a watchful eye.

Evan caught in action throwing a pebble.......I love this picture.

Ollie trying not to smile but it didn't quite work lol

Once we got home from the beach Evan put the film WALL.E on and this was him relaxing and watching the movie.

Ollie got his nose stuck into a book as usual.....I think this is the 3rd time round for reading the Harry Potter series!

So whilst my boys were happy with what they were doing, I decided that I would make an apple crumble and everyone was certainly happy with that decision yummmmmmmmmm

Wordless 'Saturday'......

It's moved for this week!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Wordless Wednesday this week has been moved to Saturday!!!! I have decided to do this for ANZAC Day as a sign of respect and in memory to all those that have and still are serving in the forces. Lest we forget!

More chocolate please!

Well it's Easter Saturday and my oldest decides that he would like to bake a cake, a chocolate chip one to be exact and well how can I say no to a boy that wants to cook! A bit more chocolate over Easter isn't going to hurt, we will just have to go out for an extra long walk at the beach tomorrow. So the finished product ends up looking rather delicious I must say!

My youngest has other ideas though and insists on adding birthday candles.....well isn't that what cakes are made for hehe

Then we have to sing 'happy birthday' and the candles have to get blown out....awwww bless him!

Hey sexy....but then again!!!!

I always knew it was true but now it's offical.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder but beware if you have been on the beer!!!!!

Yes folks it's true, there is such thing as beer goggles! We have all been in that situation where we have been out on the drink and found someone very attractive but after seeing them in the cold light of day we realise that oops we have made a huge mistake and that they are not the prince charming we remember previously hehe According to a study carried out by scientists at the University of Bristol, UK beer goggles are real...... In the study, researchers enlisted uni students, got half of them tipsy and asked all to rate the attractiveness of people in photos. The faces were considered more attractive by the drunk participants than sober ones; drunk students also rated people from their own gender as hotter when blinded by beer goggles!!!!

Now I just want to know why I never get asked to participate in this kind of survey???????

The soccer season has started!!!!

Well thats it, the soccer season for 2009 has well and truely started WOOHOO!!! Yep I'm a proud soccer mum and I'm sure thats also due to the fact that I'm a 'pommie'..... I have to say that I'm still a little confused, as I still have that urge sometimes to call it football but if and when I do, I usually get a few people look at me funny and think that I'm talking AFL or NRL dohhhhh

Anyway, my son Oliver had his first match playing for Broadbeach last Saturday against some old rivals Robina!

On the Robina team were some friends of Ollie's and one of them being the son of one of my best friends Paula (JK) and another was Ollie's close school mate but he still performed for his team as goalkeeper so well and I was just so proud of him. Even when it came to a one on one between JK and himself, Ollie put that friendship aside and played for his team causing a bash on the head for JK as Ollie dived for the ball..... It was such a close game and was 0-0 most of the way and then the last 20 minutes the outcome changed and eventually Broadbeach lost the game going down 3-0 to Robina but they held them off so well and the 2nd match against them later in the season will be an interesting one I think!

I'm back....I think....

Oh dear what a naughty blogger I've been the last few weeks, as it's been a while since I wrote anything, so come on then dish out the pushisment but hmmmmm I may just enjoy that!!! Not only have I just been busy being a single mum and running around after everyone but I've also discovered that I have a medical issue! I won't go into any detail, so don't worry, but I do need to have an operation though and being that I don't have private health care, I have to rely on the public system and that could take some time.....it doesn't matter what part of the world you are in, the public health care is always shocking and so I'm just playing a waiting game. It's left me a bit upside down but I'm a sassy pommie chic and I'm bouncing back again, it takes alot to get the best of me....just ask my ex husband hehe Anyway, I will be trying my best to keep on top of my blog again, as I hate to let all my followers down....ok ok I may be exaggerating a little there!

Julie's Birthday Night!!!

Wow what a fun night we all had. First off we all met at a bar as there were about 20 or more of us from different friend groups. The reason being for the different groups is because there were about three others also celebrating their birthdays, so they also bought along friends! We went onto the restaurant and actually took over the whole place as it was only a small family run Italian restuarant but with a Turkish twist and thats where the belly dancer came in hehe We were all sitting there drinking and chatting when in she came and what a laugh!! Once we had finished our meals and the drinking, about midnight, a few of us headed off to the casnio for more fun and thats where Julie and I stayed until the sun was well and truely up, which was about 6.45am....

Flying in with her veil...

My friends husband Richard getting a good eye full...

My lovely friend Leigh with her perving husband again hehe...

More veil dancing...

The birthday girl herself, my beautiful friend Julie....

Wordless Wednesday .....

The week that was.....28/02/09 - 07/03/09

Well what a week it was is all I can say and thank goodness it's over!!!! Some things are personal and I can't mention here in such a public forum but I definitely know who my good friends are and I thank them as always for the wonderful support during the ups and downs of my life but at least I still have a smile on my face :-) Things are still one step forward and three back but I'm still fighting and I know I'm strong and the light is there at the end of the tunnel......I think hehe Well Monday is a day I think I will skip as it was a little arghhhhhh but Tuesday was a very fun day as I had a date and lets just say that it went well and heres hoping!!! The rest of the week went by being a busy mum to my lovely boys and getting them to their various places including lots of soccer practice for my oldest. Saturday evening was fantastic night out celebrating my friends birthday and ended up being a big crowd of us with three other people celebrating birthdays too and I didn't get home till 6.45am Sunday morning!!!.....blog and photos to follow!!!

Manage your mobile!

During the bad finanical climate that is affecting everyone around the world at the moment, people need all the spare cash they can get and to tighten those purse strings! Here are some savings that most people can try as we rely heavily on our mobiles and especially if you have children with phones!
  • Use landlines Shop around for a good rate on your landline. If you're out, ask yourself if you can wait till you get home to make the call.
  • Don't talk forever If you know you are going to have a long call, use a landline.
  • Use off-peak services Call friends in these cheaper times. Some carriers offer free calls for other users on the same carrier, so try to use the same carrier for all the family.
  • Stop unnecessary SMS We've all done it, engaged in long text 'conversations'.
  • Get a better deal Call your mobile provider every six months or go online and see if there is a more suitable plan for you, based on your actual phone usage.
  • Go for prepaid rather than plans This is ideal for the kids, to stop them from racking up huge bills. It also gives them a sense of control and budgeting.
  • Use your PIN If your talkative teenagers have used all their prepaid credit, use the PIN function to stop them from using your mobile.
  • 'Talk' over the internet Use email, chatrooms or online phone services such as Skype.
  • Don't use your mobile overseas The costs are ridiculous...ouch. Use an overseas local carrier and pay local rates, and buy a phone card to call home.

The week that was....21/02/09 - 28/02/09

Hmmmm not much really happended this week as I was busy trying to keep a watchful eye on my little terror after breaking his collarbone! But as you can imagine with a 3 year old, and if you know my little guy, this is no easy feat lol His big brother and I tried to keep him from falling and bumping his arm and shoulder but he wasn't fazed in the slighest and carried on living life in the fast lane! Evan had his fracture clininc appointment on Wednesday and whilst waiting in the reception area, Evan proceeded to tell the young lad sitting behind us all about his toilet habits and what he had just done before we came out.......yes the poor young boy blushed and wasn't sure what to say...thats kids hehe Anyway, Evan was told that he could return to kindy on Friday and just to be careful.....a yay for all of us there I think! Evan returned to kindy with a happy smile and had no accidents! Saturday morning came and we were up early for Ollie's first pre-season soccer match against the under 13's rep team....Ollie's team lost but had a good match....you can't win them all!

Remember you!

Do you remember when you were younger, that you couldn't wait to grow up and become someone, you knew where you wanted to go, what you wanted to be BUT then life changes, we change!!! We become girlfriends, wives & mothers and we lose ourselves. Not that that is a bad thing but as women it just happens and we don't even realise it. Since I have become a divorced single mum, I have been asked so many times 'what are you looking for' and 'what do you want to do'???????? And to be truthful, I'm not sure anymore! So much has changed, I've changed, my needs and priorities have changed and it's one of those hard questions to answer. Someone once told me, that until you know what you want you won't find it, as how can you find it if you don't know what it is you want!!!!.....how true is that? Us women need to remember to take time out for ourselves to remember who we are and what we want and not to feel guilty about doing that. I'm now on my new journey of discovering me, myself and I.

February 24, 2009

Oh happy days!!!!

As a wine lover, don't you just love to find these kind of facts out, that drinking wine is good for you and especially for us women! Wine has been linked to a lower risk of dementia in women, says the American Journal of Epidemiology. Swedish scientists looked at 1462 women aged 38 to 60 at the start of a study, and by the end, 164 had developed dementia. Among women who drank wine, the risk was 40 per cent lower; the women who only drank wine (as opposed to other alcohol) enjoyed a 70 per cent lower risk. Now this is the kind of excuse I like, I have to drink wine otherwise I'll lose my mind.....not that having an ex husband and two boys can drive you absolutely mad!!!!!

Guest Post

This weeks guest spot goes to Mrs K of www.momfamilychild-help.typepad.com/hanginthere/guilt & sorry.

I have to say I have struggled over the past few days to post anything at all and I work on 3 blogs!...luckily one is really a picture blog for our puppy, sneakypuppy.com, so that's ok....the other is a beauty blog, Paula's Beauty Spot, where I give tips & skincare & makeup advice...and then there is this one, my main blog. I have also been asked to be a Contributor to a new social networking site called sassymamas which is launching soon...what a honor!
I'll apologise ahead for typos and missing words even tho as usual I will proofread, double check, publish and then check again...it's just that in this migrainous state, I'm likely to make mistakes I wouldn't normally make. sorry. that's a word I use a lot when I'm ill. sorry. If i don't use it, then I think it because I feel guilty a lot. guilt. I have a lot of it. I'm not talking about that normal Motherhood guilt we can all experience because we say, work and put our child in care, or guilt because we miss our childs athletics day....I mean I have guilt on top of that guilt because of my bad health and all of it's ramifications.
I think I spent my childhood getting ready for an adulthood full of pain... a series of unfortunate traumas, chemical exposures and bad accidents have culminated in a very broken internal system (mine)...the result of which is ME/CFS, debilitating migraines, chronic lower back pain and severe food & chemical intolerances. The stressful thing is I usually suffer these concurrently, there is no respite, no one at a time, oh no, they all hit me togther.....consequently, I have these charming little stress and pain cortisols running amok throughout my system as well, wrecking a particular kind of havoc of their own. Pain is magnified and tolerance levels are lowered........
This is Day 3 of a 24/3 migraine, with a pain level score from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, this pain is a constant 12/10. With an amount of analgesics I don't even want to go into this pain reduces to 10/10 for about 3 hours and then climbs back up to 12/10. More painkillers......this could go on for another 4-6 days, and if I'm really unlucky 6 weeks. That would be really bad timing as I'm having the first of 3 back surgeries next week. Not good.
My activity levels because of my chronic lower back pain have been reduced to about 2 hours per day of light activity before I have to rest, reclining on a bed. I can't sit for longer that 10-15 minutes and I defintely can't sit on a hard chair like a dining chair, so no meals with my family. guilt. No restaurant chairs for dinner with Mr K. guilt. I can't sit on an outdoor chair, so no BBQ's outdoors with friends & family. guilt. No school chapel service with Son. guilt. No house cleaning. ok, not so much guilt there, over that and loving cleaner once a week! If I push it and do more than I should or simply do the grocery shopping my back goes into a spasm and I can't move for 2-3 days. guilt. Mr K has to do the cooking. guilt.
So, here's to the success of my 3 back interventions (or 'exorcisms' as Mr K calls them)...if they work, I could have a huge reduction in severity of pain for 6-9 months until the nerves grow back (more on those procedures next week). That's Step 1. Then we can have another go at these damned migraines. to my family & friends-sorry.

The week that was....14/02/09 - 21/02/09

Hmmmmmm what a week it was.....the joys of being single and a mum! Well to start was the dreaded Valentines day! Yep it's dreaded when you are single and dateless but even saying that, from what I hear from other women that are in relationships, it's not always great for them either. I grabbed another single girlfriend of mine and we hit the town (Broadbeach) and what a fun night we had that ended at 7am Sunday morning!!! Tales of this will feature along the way in my blogg! The rest of Sunday was trying to maintain my status as a wondermum and I think I managed that quite well. Monday morning arrived and it was the usual school and kindy rush and the 'don't forgets' and 'please remembers' and hoping that you have been heard. Once the kids had been dispensed to their various places it was grab a quick coffee and home to catch up on the housework that I hadn't done over the weekend. Tuesday morning arrived and what a day that was going to turn out to be...if I had known I think I would have pushed the 'skip the day' button on my alarm clock before waking! I done the school run and then met with some of the other mums at a coffee shop close by and had a good old gossip (yes we all like doing this) mainly about valentines and what the other halfs did or didn't do hehe. After an hour or so I left to go home and do some good, I was sorting out stuff to send down the victims of the bushfires! I had a productive day doing this and hoped that it would help these families out, even if it's just a little bit. I got to kindy later in the afternoon with all the stuff I had packed up, as this was a local drop off point and collected my little guy. He wasn't happy and I was told that he had a little tumble but they had checked him over and he seemed ok....hey kids are kids and are always in the wars as we know, so took him home for the evening madness. Whilst I was bathing my little one, he still wasn't happy and then thats when I noticed he was holding his shoulders funny and with that the mum instinct kicked in full force. The one where you just know that something isn't quite right. So off down to the A & E department of the local hospital and it was confirmed after the x-rays, that yes he had in fact broken his collarbone!!!!! So that was it, the rest of the week went by in a dazed whizz as my little boy couldn't attend kindy until we go to the fructure clinic next week! Welcome to the stresses of parenthood....but would we change it.....nah not a chance!
